understanding cpu core

Hi ,

We have purchased Intel Xeon Processor E7-8891 v3 10 Core processor for our Hitachi server. In the bill it has given 2 x E7-8891 v3 10 C . lt means it will have 20 core processor in the server or two 5 core processor will be placed in each slot . Can someone explain me what does two means.

The E7-8891 v3 is a 10-core chip: http://ark.intel.com/products/84686/Intel-Xeon-Processor-E7-8891-v3-45M-Cache-2_80-GHz .
The most likely explanation from what you wrote is that you purchased an entire computer, not just the processor, and the computer came with two of these processors installed. You have two 10-core processors.

Does this seem to fit? Did you indeed buy a whole machine?

An E7-8xxx is a CPU intended for quad socket or larger machines. It is usually the case that all the CPUs in a host (or at least on a board) have to be the same. Hopefully you have appropriate Hitachi heat sink etc. Servers are not as forgiving as desktops for random hardware.
