In simple words, the road maps are approximate timelines of future product releases provided by a company to their consumers and investors. But the actual release dates of a particular product can only be confirmed (in most cases) by a company a few month before the product launch. There are various factors like the financial position of the company, any technical hurdles in production of the product that may crop after the initial announce of the product may invariably delay the release of the product.
For example, the Intel Skylake was expected to be released in Q2 2015, But now its again delayed due to various factors (Read this article to know the reasons). You can also see the same delay is reflected in the road map below:
