Understanding Hard Drive Threshold Data

I got a new WD 1TB Blue hard drive, and used HD Tune Pro to examine my drive and check the various statistics (Current, Worst, Threshold, Data, Status). I now need a little help understanding a few of the results.

Under Raw Read Error Rate, it lists a Threshold value of 51. Is this normal for a new drive?

Reallocated sector count has a threshold value of 140, spin up time has a threshold value of 21, and seek error rate and spin retry rate also list threshold values of 51.

Additionally the Raw Read Error rate initially started out at 253 worst, but then dropped to 200 after I restarted the computer, is that a concern?

All the status indicators list the drive as being ok, so I am not too worried. I am mostly just curious as to what threshold values a brand new drive should have.

Hey there, @berlin88!

It would be really helpful if you share a screenshot of the SMART results, so that we could better assist you.
Each HDD manufacturer, including Western Digital defines a set of attributes and sets threshold values beyond which the attributes should not pass under normal operations. When you are concerned about the health of your drive, you need to look at the Raw value of the SMART results. Either way, I'd advise you to backup your data from the WD Blue HDD somewhere else as well, and after that run the QUICK and EXTENDED tests from our Data Lifeguard Diagnostics for Windows . This utility is brand-specific and your WD Blue needs to pass both tests without any errors. However, some screenshots from...

Keep me posted! :)
