[SOLVED] Understanding SATA nomenclature

Up until about 15 years ago I built a lot of desktops of all types. All but the last one were onboard graphics. I have Google searched for the answer but not understanding.

I am building a video editing (Davinci Resolve 16/17) around the ASUS Prime X299 Deluxe II. I am using the M.2_1 (boot) & M.2_2 (used for all backup) 2 HDDs for video storage.

SATA6G_78 My question is what does the _78 mean. There are many other sufix used, I just picked on _78 ( _12 _34 _56 etc.)

I am replacing a MSI X299 SLI Plus.

There are 8x SATA ports on that motherboard.

Means port # 7 and port #8.

Thank you USAFRet. Usually I can pick up things like that but that went over at about 30,000 feet (up in your neighborhood).
