The website I was using to help me build my pc told me that my motherboard MSI 970A G43 supported an AMD FX 8350. Turns out the info was outdated, since MSI removed that processor from the compatibility list, because apparently the it is known to reach 140W, instead of the 125W stated by AMD, which would cause the board to overheat.
Would undervolting the CPU fix that issue? I have absolutely no intention of overclocking it, so reducing it's power consumption should maximize compatibility, right?

Isn't it dangerous if the board starts heating? I was just thinking of precautions to make sure it doesn't get damaged

Undervolting is quite simple. Generally, FX CPUs have more voltage at stock than they really need. At stock, my FX-8320 was 1.38v, and I could lower it all the way to 1.25v and be stable still. There's no real danger for undervolting, other than your system becoming unstable. Undervolting would decrease power consumption and thus produce less heat. You need to test your stability with something like Prime95.

Worst of the worst, you can disable 2 cores instead, which will also greatly reduce power consumption.
