I have a desktop unit that keeps shutting down unexpectedly after about 5 or 10 mins after booting up. I upgraded the unit to windows 10 about a year ago and also changed the mother board over as the first one had failed. The new mobo was a slightly better version of the original. I assumed that it was an over heating problem so I checked all the fans and they were all working.
I tried changing over the PSU unit but no difference. I then swapped out the graphics card - no difference followed by a brand new CPU heatsink and fan of the same make originally fitted - still no effect.
I used Speed Fan and could see that the CPU fan was only running at about 1550 rpm when it should run between 3050 and 600rpm - both the old one and the new one were doing the same so i guess i can rule out a heatsink problem.
Speed Fan said the CPU was about 55C at boot up and got to about 75 before it shut down.
I have checked the four ram sticks and they are ok.
If I boot in safe mode i can get quite a bit longer before it shuts down but shutdown it will eventually do.
Here are some specs:

MESH COMPUTER ABOUT 10 YEARS OLD 32 BIT

MOBO ; A8N-SLI PREMIUM

HEATSINK AK-856E

CPU AMD ATHLON 64 X 2 4600+

MEMORY 3071MB (333)

Any suggestions guys?

Those older MBs used chemical electrolytic capacitor which can dry out and malfunction. That was pretty common fault, I have changed any of them at those times. Have good look at them, specially around VRM section on MB. There's an X etched at the top which should be flat, any bulge signifies that the are gone bad. Some even leak but it's also possible to look normal and still malfunction.

Thanks for the reply. I have had a good inspection and they all appear to be ok. No bulges and no sign of leakage on the MB from the bottom of any of them.
I know you said there could be bad ones still so how would I go about checking them individually?
Cheers.
