Hi,

I have windows 10 from a disk v 1709 I have a custom built computer I was having an issue with a program called rollback rx So I was told by them to retsore the operating system and delete the c partition and create the new volume and then hit format and I did thaqt and I also did it with the 99mb system uefi partition and I was able to get back into windows 10 and download the 1803 v and now I have all these other partitions on my system and the c drive is not formatted

can someone please tell me in detail how I would go about fixing all of this

thank you so much

Solution

Assuming you are doing an actual clean install, delete ALL partitions.
You'll be left with one large space.
Make a single partition from that, and let the install continue, creating what it needs.

In my link above, Section II, Step 6 and 7.
How to do a CLEAN installation of Windows 10
Is this a brand new install?
Is there anything in there you need to keep?

Personally, I'd just blow all of that away, and do a full clean install.
Sure, you could try to "fix" all that.
But a clean install would almost certainly be faster, and 100% guaranteed to work.

Okay let me ask you. When I go to restore the operating system you know the box where it says where do you want to install windows to and I click on the c drive do I delete it and then hit the new button and then hit the format button or do I just highlight the c drive and then just click next and then once I get back into windows the drive will show as formatted right? I will do this. How do I also get rid of all the other stuff do I have to delete it in the box that says where do you want to install windows where it lists all of your drives and partitions? Or do I just leave them alone. And will they still show up after windows is reinstalled? Because I would like to have only the extra partitions that windows needs and my slave drives of course but nothing else

Could I know how to do a reinstall but I'm wondering if I have to format the c drive which is an ssd. Because I deleted the ssd drive when I just restored and then I hit the new button and it created a volume for me and then I hit the format button and I also did this with the 99mb partition and that's when I had this issue Windows works accept for this. And the c drive showing as unformatted as you saw in the screenshot

When it asks where, select Custom.
You'll be presented with a list of ALL partitions on that drive.
Select each, and DELETE.
Leaving one blank space.
Install to that, letting the OS create what it needs.

And....do this install with ONLY the desired drive connected.
Disconnect all other physical drives.

Well let me ask Okay I will unplug them so when you say delete everything else your saying just delete them but don't do anything else just hit the delete button. Now if I do that won't the partitions still show up after I reinstall windows? Won't they show up as unallocated disk space? And if they do I would just use a partition software and merge free space back to the c drive right? And what about the main drive that windows is on the ssd should I delete that also? Or should I just hit next and just put windows on it. Cause if I delete it it will be unallcoated disk space. So would windows in that case format it for me during the installation of windows 10. And after I install v 1803 from windows update?

Okay so when you say leaving one blank space and you said install to that drive obviously you are saqying delete all the partitions except for The c drive right the drive that windows is being installed too right? Don't delete it format it nothing just hit next right?

You should disconnect all the other drives before you start this install process.
Then, on the target drive, delete ALL partitions, leaving one Unallocated space.

Ignore the concept of "C drive" for now.
The C does not exist yet. Right now...you're only looking at the physical drive.
Whatever drive you want the OS on.
Delete ALL the partitions.

Did you read through that link? Section II, Step 6 & 7?

It should end up looking just like this. (except for the actual size of the drive)

Yes the physical drive is the c drive that is where I want windows. So I will delete all the other drives and keep the unallocated disk space which will be the c drive the ssd that is where I want windows to go on?

Your instructions did not work I deleted all the partitions except the c drive partition which is the primary ssd drive that I installed windows too. After I deleted all the other partitions the windows partition did not change it did not turn into unallocated disk space.

Can you show us a screencap of where you are with this?
