Uninstall Trouble

My daughter's copy of NWN became buggy the other day after adding HOTU,
all the text was unreadable. She fought with it for a while, and I
looked at it a few times but couldnt' come up with a solution either.

At any rate, I suggested uninstalling and reinstalling, to see if it was
a corrupted file or something.

Wasn't paying atttention, though, and it didn't occur to me that she'd
go in and delete the files instead of using the uninstall feature.

Needless to say, this didn't work, now she can't install the game
because parts of it are still there somewhere, and the uninstaller won't
work either, presumably because parts are missing.

Anyone know how we can get in there and wipe out whatever's preventing
either a new install or a real uninstall?

Use Regedit to delete the HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE>SOFTWARE>Bioware>NWN key
and try again.

You'll have to throw the computer away or send it to me. Then buy a whole
new one =)p

Hehe.. go with the guy that posted the registry thing.

Nope, didn't work. Trying to install NWN (OC), I still get "error with
uninstall" message

Bioware posted some indications on how manually uninstall NWN.
You will find the informations here:

Bingo, this one's the winner, turns out in addition to the regedit,
there's a hidden file with a name you'd never search for; {7c503.....
about 40 random digits without NWN or Bioware or anything like that to
be seen.

Oh, its possible that this wasn't necessary, as they also had us go in
and remove the NWN folder from the start menu... it was either the
hidden file or that, or both, that did the trick, we did both and its
finally installing again.

Next question is, once installed, will we be able to read NWN text or not.

Go to the recycle bin and restore the files then remove properly otherwise a
registry hack is the next best way.

She was very thorough; deleted the files, then went to recycle bin and
deleted from there as well, "to make sure there was no chance the
infected file would still be on her machine".

And yet a copy of My Pretty Pony is still sitting in there from when she
deleted it 6 months ago. Funny thing is, I was just reading Mr. King's
story about that last night.

The registry deal Barry mentioned didn't work either 🙁

If you have problems with your new install, check the HotU
documentation. There were some known issues with certain graphics
cards. I had a problem with unreadable text and randomly appearing
colored geometric shapes.

The card I was using was listed amongst the ones with issues in the
HotU docs. Downloading and installing updated video drivers for the
cards resolved it. Also, patch your HotU to the latest patch 🙂
