I own an HP ENVY dv7 Notebook PC. It is about 4 years old and came with Windows 8 installed (I think it has updated to Windows 8.1 but not sure). I have purchased Windows 10 on Amazon. The package says "WIN HOME 10 64BIT ENGLISH 1PK DSP OEI DVD VERSION 1709". The gentleman at the computer store told me all I had to do was format the C drive (wipe the drive) and then load the disk, however, when I try this I get the message "You cannot format this volume it contains the version of Windows that you are using. Formatting this volume could cause your computer to stop working." Someone please help.

Solution
You do not format the drive within a booted windows. You put in your windows 10 disc or usb drive boot from it and it will give you the option to format the drive during the install process.
