ok, so just created windows restore point and then upgraded to windows 10. The touchpad stopped working so I was stuck with the touchscreen. This is very embarassiunng but I've uninstalled the chipset driver (with the intention to re-install it from the web as it kept saying it was up to date but my driver utility said it was not). Ok.. so stupid. Machine restarted, now without any chipset driver, boot fails. ASUS says it can't find my restore point, probably as it can't access the drive. I can access the bios just not load windows. Is there anything I can do? Or is a factory reset the only thing and will that work even?

Lack of the manufacturer's chipset driver alone wouldn't prevent a PC from booting in to the OS, if it did you wouldn't be able install the chipset driver since you need Windows to install it, so you'd be in a classic "catch 22" situation.

Something else is affecting the boot process. Try re-installing Windows.

Yay... awwww. Can't re-install windows as cant boot and connect to net. to re-install and..they don't ship cds or usb installation disks anymore with your laptop. I have the option to do a factory reset taking me back to 8.1 but will lose my personal data. Can't access my restore point as it states cannot find one (probably as windows is shot?) Crap. Double crap.

Sounds like youre talking about sata drivers.

Altho unless you deleted the entry in device manager, (not sure if you can anyway), one fix maybe is take it off ahci in the BIOS.,

Boot into windows then add them again thru device or an install file

Then put it back on AHCI

All of the chipset drivers I've installed, I've never seen a way to uninstall them
