I have XP Home Edition and I have installed SP2 and I want to know if I can
safely uninstall it using ADD/REMOVE. I cannot get AVG 7 to work. I've made
posts here as well as to the Grisoft's forum with no response. The only
other thing I can think to do is uninstall SP2, install AVG 7 and then
re-install SP2. I think the firewall is somehow blocking it because I cannot
get it to connect for updates although I have configured the firewall
according to the Grisoft's documentation. Any thoughts on this would be
appreciated.

Yes, you can safely remove SP2 from Add/Remove.

Well, yes, it should be safe to remove it. But I have seen AVG 7 installed
on several XP SP2 computers, so it does not have to be related in any way. I
have however had some bad experiences with the AVG update server. Some times
it has been impossible to get contact with it, no matter what. You may wish
to retry the updating a couple of times before going to the step of
uninstalling and reinstalling SP2.
