My husband works at home and has a gateway computer with
win2000. We then set up a second computer using router and
wireless adapter. I did not realize that the installation
disk could only be used on the primary computer. I wanted
to do some upgrades to aol and windows98 on my computer. i
uninstalled aol, because i wanted to install a newer
version. Before installing newer version of aol I began
installing 2000. Instructions were to uninstall 98 first,
which I did. Boy, am I sorry! Before finalizing
installation i got fatal error message. After much time
trying to reinstall, I found out what my mistake was. I
cannot acces anything in my computer. The screen is frozes
on the 2000 blue screen, with fatal error message. When I
close that, the computer restarts, and does the same thing
again. I cannot get to my desk top or anything else. Also,
it will not let me install anything else. HELP! Sorry for
being so long winded.

To wipe the drive, some ways include; boot a win98/ME startup disk, run
fdisk and delete all partition information found (as long as NTFS is
primary). Or boot the Windows 2000 CD-Rom or setup disks and when you get to
the point, delete the existing NTFS and or other partitions found, then
abort the install. Or use a utility named delpart. Once removed you can boot
the Win98/ME CD-Rom or restore CD-Rom to start your install. Make sure you
have win9x device drivers available before hand.
