Okay so i built a custom gaming PC about four years ago. Works like a charm and runs games smooth as butter. Just today, whenever i open any game, it works fine at 60fps uptil about 2-3 minutes. After that, the framerate drops to about 5-10 fps, making it unplayable. BUT theres a catch. I play with a controller, and when the framerate drops, clicking the left mouse button or moving the mouse, or even alt-tab to switch between the desktop and game, returns the framerate to normal....... and 2-3 minutes later the same stuff happens and moving or clicking the mouse/ alt-tab'ing returns it to normal. This keeps on going, and the framerate never returns itself to normal by itself without me doing anything about it. So..... help? I don't wanna keep moving the mouse or switching tabs just to retain framerates. Its annoying. My PC :
Intel Core i5 2500K 3.3 ghz
AMD HD 7750 Sapphire GDDR5 1GB edition
8 GB RAM
500 GB HDD
600W PSU

It worked well for 4 years. Only now is this happening.

I've had similar issues with only GTAV using an Xbox One wired controller. When I'd start the game with the controller plugged in, it pretty much did the same thing you described where it would work for the first 2 minutes and then drop in FPS drastically. I'm pretty sure this was a driver issue that was fixed a few weeks later, but for quick fix try starting the game with the controller unplugged, and then plug it in while you're in the middle of the game - if that is an option.

Crazy_Diamond, thanks for the help but, this fps drop occurs even when i start the game with the controller unplugged (XBOX360 wired controller). Infact, this occurs in every single game, even ones that would run without a hitch on a toaster 😛 Interacting with the keyboard or mouse in any way instantly returns the framerate to 60fps, but every few minutes this drop occurs again. I updated the MS Visual C++ 2013 redistributables yesterday and started having this problem after that. Maybe that's what is causing the drops? If so, what can i do about it? This is not much of a problem with games which can be played with kbm as i'll always be using those, but it will be a big problem with games that require a controller.
