I recently snagged an HP prebuilt machine for a good price.

I7 4790k
Nvidia GTX 980Ti
12gb memory
2tb hdd

Got this machine for around a grand after rebate which I think is a really good deal.

My plan was to replace the components that I wanted(980Ti and possibly 4790k as well) with cheaper parts and then selling off the prebuilt HP. I then would use the salvaged parts in my build.

Here is my dilemma. I'm not quite sure if I should use the 4790k in my build or the 6700k.

I researched around and a lot of the components for the skylake(ddr4, z170) are similarly priced with the haswell even though haswell components are now in a phase of getting outdated. The only big difference was the 6700k for which I would have to dish out a good chunk of extra moola.

If you were in my shoes, what would you do?

Lastly, I also recently grabbed a MSI 980 for $315 after rebate and cash back. I know I have the 980Ti but this deal was too good to pass up. Sadly, all those top end graphic cards are hard to justify in my uses since I don't do any graphic intensive tasks such as Photoshopping and video editing and the games I play tend to not require much power since I mainly play online games which have significantly lesser system requirements.

With 980Ti being the greatest right now, maybe I should sell it off and use the 980 which is still an overkill for my uses? Or just go 980Ti and be happy knowing I have the best?
