Guys,

My client just gave me a USB stick to format cause it wouldn't format in his PC. Its a Kingston Data Traveller 2.0 8GB. After a week's googling I still couldn't format the drive. I mean I tried the registry thing, testdisk.diskpart, tried few freewares but the drive wouldn't format. The drives contain some unknown files with unknown extensions. Can't delete or rename them, nor can change their attributes. It contains some important data that my client requires. I have to delete those unknown files.

I have a screen shot of the contents in the drive. How do I share it here??

Any help would be gladly appreciated :)

Double check that the drive does not have a physical lock/unlock switch. If it does not have one, then it might be time to get a new USB stick.

They do were out, and it is not unheard of them failing completely, but they do tend to last longer then your standard floppy. But your in luck, it looks like it is still being read. Backup all the data that can be read, and get a new USB stick.

Sometimes chasing bugs that defy logical sense from a non recoverable malfunction sometimes require a bigger hammer. Instead of racking the brain weeks on end, when the solution might just be to cut the losses and get a new unit, its better for your sanity. This is also trivial to replace, since it is only 8gb stick. If the data is mission critical, then its off to a data recovery specialists.

Any data sucks to loose, but there should be more important things in life, and keeping your sanity is one of them. Sorry I couldn't help. Best of luck trying out the dozens of possible solutions that seem to come up in a google search.
