my internet at home sometimes works perfectly for a while, then maybe 5 minutes later only google works and i get the "no internet connection" or the "your connection was interrupted" chrome error on any other site and then a few minutes later it would work again. i've called my provider and after trying to fix my problem for a while, they told me it was because steam was using too much internet (10-20 gb everyday) and then something about the dns or ip. i have a 35mbps unlimited plan so i shouldn't be limited by internet usage. they suggested trying to change the router which worked. 12 hours later, the router i changed to doesn't work anymore and it's back to what it was before. So my question is, is it caused by CIK being a shit company and limiting my internet because they want more profit, or is it something that would happen with any company? also, tell me if this is the wrong place to post this type of stuff.
edit: 10-20 gigabits, not gigabytes.
edit2: the second router works. just happened to die for about 20min right when i had to leave

Let a constant ping run to 8.8.8.8 and see if you get packet loss that corresponds to your outage. If not try to set the dns manually in your PC to 8.8.8.8.

Pretty much these type of issues are mostly caused by data loss on your internet connection and DNS issues.

Normally a data cap they tend to reduce the speed you can transfer when you hit it. Because it is a pain for them to actually implement that a lot of ISP just charge extra if you exceed some cap. Others just send you nasty warning letters and threaten to turn off your service. I can not think of a way they could intentionally implement a data cap that would cause the symptoms you describe. Then again you have a unlimited account so they should not be doing anything anyway.

10-20GB of steam download each day is a real lot make sure you have it configured to limit its download rate so it does not use up all your bandwidth.

i forgot to mention that it's gigabits not gigabytes which isn't that much, and i don't know what steam needs all that data for. i'll check the ping thing when i get home.

just one question .... are you using chrome?

stop using chrome.

and steam using 20GB a day? that sounds wrong... well unless youre using steam to stream hd movies all day long non-stop. Is there a 'fair use policy'?

Mod Edit for Language

I don't use steam much and i don't know what needs 20gb a day. i'm trying to figure it out. steam client bootstraper is the only steam thing that uses internet when i'm not using steam and it uses between 0 and 0.1 mbps so that probably isn't it. why should i stop using chrome? if it's the high ram usage, i have 16gb so that's not really a problem for me.
