Hello I recently brought a used i7 2600k pc that came with 4 sticks of corsair 2GB ram 1833mhz. My old pc now my sons had 16GB of unmatched 1300mhz ram that I now have spare (he had his own ram).

Which ram would get the most performance for gaming, CAD and occasional video editing, the 2x8gb or 4x8gb matched?

Any help appreciated.

Solution
More RAM is always better. But using unmatched sticks in dual channel mode is problematic. Stability may suffer. It depends, I guess, on what is more important to you; dependability or more gaming memory.

8GB is more than enough for most games. But if you have a lot of other crap open while you game (or running in the background) it can slow things down.

Is your RAM actually running at 1800MHz or is it at the default speed?

You could swap them out and test for yourself. See if there is any noticeable improvement from 1333MHz to 1800MHz. Then do a stability test for each. (Prime 95 overnight)

thanks, i am going to pick the best answer but idk if i can continue the topic

well, i couldnt find anything more than 2666 beside a 3200 one in local stores, and that one have almost 80% higher price for 4GB stick, does it worth it?
and about dual channel, does it effect bus speed?
2x2666 4GB vs 1x2666 8GB (brand: AData)
can i OC this to 2933?
ps: consider this with A320 chip, still not sure if i go with b350 since i am ganna miss a PCI port for my wifi adapter, and i cant afford higher mobo of b350
i am rly tight on budget 😉
