unplanned cmos reset

HP/Compaq dc7900 Mini Tower, has Intel Mobo. Everytime there is a power outage or I unplugged for maintenance etc. When plug the power cord back in the computer automatically starts and during post stops due to the time and date requiring reset. I have changed the cmos battery and the problem persists. My first concern is the automatic power up on repowering the box and 2nd, the constant need to reset the time and date.

There might be faulty contacts with the CMOS battery.

like corrosion? or faulty soldering at manufacture?

I don't know. Something similar. Try removing the battery and check the contacts. Make sure they come in contact with the battery when seated. Take care to not broke them.

I finally got a round to opening the side. You were correct, the contact on the side of the battery housing was not touching the battery. I bent it back into place and now it works as it should.
