Question Unplugging computer for several months

I have a desktop computer with a built-in CPU, and need to store it for several months while I am away. Is it better for the computer if I leave it plugged in or unplugged for that period of time? I am technologically challenged and if the computer goes belly up while I am gone, I would not know how to retrieve the vital information if it was lost. I would appreciate any help people could give me. Thank you very much. From naive grandma.

Unplugging it and leaving it in a proper place (IE no water damage, too cold, too hot, etc) would be fine, probably the safest way to leave it for a few months.
PCs sit on shelves for months in the store just fine.
