My wireless network is set up with WPA2 security and a 50+ character, random password. My understanding is that's pretty secure. Also, the router is in our basement and a decent signal is hard to get more than a few yards from the house.
Nevertheless, I was browsing my network this morning (Windows Explorer) and noticed an unrecognized device under "Other Devices." It was called "Blaze" and the only other information I could find about it (via Right-click -> Properties) was that the model number was "wl12xx" which appears to be a generic wireless driver from Texas Instruments. Whatever this "Other Device" was, it disappeared within a couple of minutes.
Due to a router misconfiguration (my fault, not a hack, and since fixed), I wasn't able to check the DHCP or wireless connection logs so I don't have any data other than what showed in Explorer.
I can see a couple possible scenarios:
1.) My wireless key was somehow cracked and an unauthorized device did in fact join my network.
- or -
2.) My computer (or other device on our network - Android phones, a Brother printer, and Dlink camera) has something on it that acts as a separate network device on occasion.
I would appreciate any insight as to what this "Blaze wl12xx" could have been, as it was definitely there for at least a couple of minutes that I know of.
Thanks in advance,
Matthew
