Hi all

just finished building a new computer, installed windows 7 64bit and the drivers. started downloading anti virus stuff, then realized my internet (this tower is the only cable connection) would spike then drop to 0. speed test show normal 12mbs down and 1.5 mbs up. this same thing happens to browser download. I then tried using a download manager, periodically it would also drop to 0 and say server stops responding, but then it would retry connection and be able to maintain speed for 10 seconds before drop back to 0.

My laptop connects fine via wifi to the router.

I dont' think this is a ISP or router problem, maybe I got a faulty motherboard?

please help.

thanks!

Solution
Sometimes the drivers provided by the disc are buggy, so it's important to check your hardware vendor's website for driver updates.

http://www.asus.com/Motherboards/X99AUSB_31/

Navigate to the support section, top right of this page. Now just select drivers and tools, select your operating system, and select LAN. Download the newest driver.

the wifi is good. I also just bought a new ethernet cable. I hope it's a faulty ethernet port on the motherboard.

in terms of network card driver, basically I just used the disc came with the Asus x99-a/usb3.1, there is a LAN driver. I don't know if I'm missing anything?
