Unsure of a Bit of Hardware on my Nexus 6 Truly Is

So I was looking closely at my Nexus 6, and noticed to the left of the top speaker is some camera/ir blaster looking thing that from what I've tried doesn't do anything. Does anybody know what it does?

My protective case even has a cutout for the things, but I still can't figure out what they are!

One of them is the ambient light sensor.
