Unsure on the CPU to get for my gaming computer

Hi, I've been getting everything ready to build my first computer which will mainly be used for gaming, recording with camtasia or fraps and editting/uploading

This is my current build part list (note: none of this has been ordered yet incase i should change anything)

and as for the processor I'm unsure on if i should be getting an i5 or i7 and if i should get a K series or not (not really sure what the difference is between K series and non K series?), i most likely won't be overclocking since I've heard alot can go wrong if you do it badly and it can shorten the computer parts life span.

any help is greatly appreciated, thanks in advance!

P.S any other suggestions on changes to the build are appreciated aswell :]
 
Hi there, for a build of that price I would suggest the 3570k or if you want the non-k edition of the 3570. The price difference is negligible, so it would not hurt to grab the K edition and perhaps you will overclock in the future. Also overclocking will shorten the processor's life only if you exceed the safe temperatures and increase the voltages to dangerous amounts.

Edit: You could also downgrade to 16gb, I don't see how 32 gb is going to be used. 8gb is kind of the standard for gaming builds now but at the price why not go for 16gb.
 


If all you are doing is playing games you don't need 32 Gigs of RAM that is way overkill. You don't need more than 8 Gigs and even then you won't use all 8 gigs. As for the 680 that is a great video card, it is the higest end single GPU made by Nvidia. The thing is that a GTX 670 performs just as good for less and with overclocking can perform just as good as a 680. The HDD is also overkill. You do not need a 3 TB hard drive. I don't know how much you are putting on this computer but you will more than likely not fill up a 1TB HDD let alone a 3 TB. I wouldn't go with more than 1 TB for a gaming computer. Everything else seems fine and if I would get an I5 3570K CPU.
 


Hey, so an i5 and not an i7? is the i7 not worth the extra cost/would i see a difference if i bought it instead of an i5 (sorry, I'm new to most of this, these are probably really obvious questions) thanks for the help!
 
i7 offers little to no performance gains in gaming when compared to the i5. SO it's not worth paying an additional $100 if your not going to use the hyperthreading technology. Hyperthreading for the i7 is that there is 2 threads per core, whereas the i5 has one thread per core.
