Hi everyone,

Hope you're all doing well. I just had a question as I'm unsure what to do with my current PC. I originally built it 5 or 6 years ago with the following specs:

AMD FX-8320 (now with a hyper 212 EVO on it)
Sapphire R9 270X
8GB of RAM
ASUS motherboard (I believe an M5a97 LE R2.0- but I'll try to verify later)
EVGA Supernova 750 Watt Gen 2 80+ Gold
1 TB HDD
Enermax Ostrog case (I'm pretty sure)

It still performs well but has started showing its age recently, and I've been looking at upgrading/replacing it within the next 6 months. I'd like to get back into playing more games (including recent titles like Battlefield V) and I've also been doing more work in music production and would like to be able to run large projects in software like Reason or Ableton. Budget is flexible, but somewhere around $800-$1000 CAD is preferable.

I guess my question is how many components could I get away with re-using? I assume I could keep the same case, but if I upgraded the mobo/cpu/ram to the new Ryzen series could I also recycle my PSU, HDD, and potentially even GPU? (With the intent of upgrading it a few months further down the road when money allows?)

Thanks very much!

Solution
You could reuse the PSU, HDD, and case (I'd probably ditch the case myself, but...)

Don't mind that compatibility warning. MSI's "max" series boards are guaranteed to ship with a Ryzen 3000 BIOS.

Thanks for your reply! I'd been thinking of keeping my old case partly because I'm nostalgic and partly to save a few dollars but maybe I'll reevaluate that decision.
