Unusable internet when i watch youtube on my phone.

When ever i play a YouTube video on 360p (YouTube app on Galaxy S7 Edge)and above the whole network becomes unusable, for example my brothers game will shoot to 2000 ping. I have a 45 Mbs download speed on my phone. Any ideas?

I am going to assume the game console is also using wifi. I am going to bet it is your phone and game console can not hear each other even though both can talk to the router fine.

Wifi is 1/2 duplex. The end device will listen to hear if anyone is using the bandwidth and if not they assume it is fine to transmit. So if your 2 end device can not hear each other they both transmit and the router which can hear both now gets 2 overlapping and damaged signals. If your phone has slightly more signal level at the router its signal will generally win.

If you have a dual band router try running one device on 2.4g and the other on 5g.
