Unusual crashing issues

Hello Guys,

This is my first post so be nice :)

RIght, where do i start..... My friends PC used to crash on and off under random conditions, under load, when at idle or web browsing etc but sometimes it would be just fine and it would let him play for prolonged periods without issue.

His specs at that time were: (sorry for the vagueness)

Some random AMD Phenom 2
AMD r270 GPU
8GB of Gskill Ram
500w PSU

- quite a basic build.

At this point i got him to try various things :

-Memtest
-Registry Cleaners
-Reinstallation of Drivers
-Prime95
-Heaven Benchmark

All showed no issues, minus a few registry files missing.

So after a while he wanted to upgrade and get a few more FPS, he got a 750w EVGA PSU and a second hand AMD R9 290, which seem to work ok... for a while, then the crashing started again, forcing him to check again what could be wrong...nothing.

OK, moving forward to today.... hes upgraded...

New Specs are

Intel 4790k
Msi Gaming 5 z97
AMD r9 290
Gskill 8gb RAM @1333
EVGA 750w PSU
Fresh new Installation of Windows 10 on a formatted SSD (used to be his secondary)

Guess what....? thats right, crashing...

I mentioned about testing ram again amongst other things, so he wanted to eliminate the ram completely, in doing so he went out and bought 16gb of corsair vengeance 1600, put it in and everything seemed ok, for a while. then the crashing (or perhaps lockups) continued.
Strange thing is that even though minidumps are enabled and the folder exists, none are being created. So "whocrashed" or the like cannot be used and also eventviewer isnt showing anything untoward either.

So being said that the dumps are not viewable, i cannot point the finger to the issues he previously had, i just find it very unusual that hes having very similar problems that he had on basically his "old" PC.

Sorry for the long post but i am running of things for him to try and i need some direction.

I am glad you asked that. Ironically I asked him the exact same question last night. At first he said yes, which led me to believe that could be a possibility, but as of today he now states that it is just a multi socket extension. Also to add that he has recently moved home so a main issue seems less likely.
