I recently purchased an Asus GU501GM gaming notebook/laptop from bestbuy. It has been working great but the one thing I noticed is when I pick it up and tilt it, it makes an unusual sound which can best be described as a faint buzzing sound. Since it is under warranty I took it to best buy to have it looked at. I demonstrated how the tilt makes the sound and they heard it and said that it is the fan and its perfectly normal, but everywhere on the internet poeple say its bad. The noise isnt too loud and only happens when tilted at any angle so its fine when just sitting at the desk. The noise only occurs during tilting, in other words, the noise immediately stops when it is done with the movement even if it is held diagonal to the ground. So what could this be? Is it common?

Thanks in advance.

I think there's a good chance it's the fan.....and by tilting it you are changing the load on the bearing and perhaps causing the shaft to ride differently in the bearings and thus you get the noise.

Perhaps this is normal, perhaps it's not. It's difficult to say.

....and as far as this causing the fan to fail early.....this is also difficult to say.

....but I don't think this is anything critical.....especially being you don't normally operate the laptop slanted.

I went back to best buy and tilted their same models of the laptop I have that they had on display and they all did the same thing. lol
