Just in the last week my PC has been acting up. Initially I thought it was a game I was playing but it sems to be happening whenever I play a particularly intense game.

So I will turn on the pc, using it for general tasks it works flawlessly, however the other day I started Cities 2 and I started to experience lag from the mouse, sometimes the mouse pointer disappears. I am able to use a joypad with no lag, this also happens with the keyboard occasionally also. I can usually play for about 10-20minutes before it starts to happen. The game itself appears to be running normally whilst this is happening.

I exit the game and the lag continues, in fact I have to restart the PC the stop the lag continuing. Occasionally I will exit the game the usb's will all go off then come back on again.

The components are mostly new less than a year old. I have run the pc with only keyboard and mouse, I have used different mouse and keyboard, I have reinstalled windows and I have tried different ports. I am a little lost here as I do not know how to troubleshoot this one!

i5 13600KF / Z690 Maximus Formula X / TUF1000w PSU / WIN 11 64b / 32GB Vengence / MSI 4090 / Lian Li Dynamic XL / 4K Acer Nitro 144Hz / H150i Elite / Everest Max - Logitech Pro X Super / Powerplay Mat . I have 9 fans.

When you see lag on your computing, what does Task Manager's Resource monitor show you? If you're resource usages are high when idle, then try closing apps that have popped up during startup. If that doesn't change anything, you can might want to try a system restore to a point prior to when the lags came to be.

If you have abnormally high system resource usage, then it's possible that you have what is known as a memoryleak, which has happened since Windows 8. Only way around it is a system restore or a clean install of the OS, after recreating your bootable USB installer to rule out a corruption in your installer.

BIOS version for your motherboard?

Like I said I did a complete reinstall, the system is working normally and the cpu is running at roughly 35-40% with cities 2 as the game is more or less at the beginning with little built. The game itself continues to run normally whilst the lag occurs so I know it has nothing to do with the PC itself. I have 9 fans with 2 corsair commander pros whicxh I think may be causing the problem, I am going to look into this.

Do a clean boot to see if the problems go away.
