[SOLVED] Unwanted power plan switching on watching fullscreen video

Hi, I have this unusual thing that started to happen to me around 2 weeks ago, whenever I have my laptop plugged in and I'm watching something in video software (so far I tried BS player and KMPlayer which I use usually) my power plan switch from power saver (which I use 100% of time except when I'm playing games) to high performance. Firstly I noticed this because my fans make more noice, but I didn't know why this is happening, whenever I looked in acer's software nitrosense, I saw CPU on around 60 degrees temperature (on power saver it's around 42), and then 2 days ago I was watching something and I had nitrosense up behind the video, and when I windowed it I actually saw in nitrosense that it switched from high performance to power saver.
I don't really know why is this happening and why is it limited only when I have notebook plugged in, I'm no aware any changes that I made at the time when this started, only my licence for norton expired and I started using avast, but since I don't know the exact day it started, I it may have started few days before or after that anyway.
Any help? Any ideas? I don't want to watch everything only on battery and have it on high performance is not obv okay too, it drains more power and it makes fans quite loud, which is distracting.
I'll be glad for any help and I'll provide any additional informations if needed.

Acer Nitro 5, specs are:
Intel Core i7 9750H Coffee Lake
15.6" IPS 1920 × 1080 120Hz
RAM 16GB DDR4
NVIDIA GeForce GTX 1660 Ti 6GB
SSD 1000GB

What drivers do you mean? Everything I updated as far as windows things are concerned I did through windows update, nitrosense itself didn't required any drivers updates.

What is the EXACT model of Nitro 5? Either the serial number, SNID or exact model such as Nitro N50-110, Nitro AN515-43, etc., is necessary in order to know the exact hardware package/elevation of that specific model.

Model specific drivers are ALWAYS required, for ANY device, whether it is a prebuilt desktop, laptop, tablet, motherboard, graphics card, or whatever it is, IF you want the FULL functionality of that device to be assured. Microsoft offers universal native drivers for most types of hardware but that often means some features are not available or optimized.

Automatically updated utilities like "nitrosense" or other driver updaters, are worse than useless. In fact, they are often the problem to begin with because nobody, including Microsoft, has yet figured out how to make them both accurate and all inclusive. They will "work" but as you've seen already they may not "work" correctly or to best outcomes. Power plans are usually either determined by the native Windows generic models or by the plans sometimes offered by specific chipset driver packages, which is why we want to find the CORRECT chipset driver package for your motherboard/laptop model because there may be optimizations or features included that are specific to the problems you are seeing. And, there may not, but being SURE is a best practice. Guessing, or assuming, is foolhardy.

I would uninstall the nitrosense software, if it were my system. Yes.

I would install all of the following drivers after doing so.

Chipset driver: https://global-download.acer.com/GD...3=NITRO AN515-54&OS=ALL&LC=en&BC=ACER&SC=PA_6

Audio driver: https://global-download.acer.com/GD...3=NITRO AN515-54&OS=ALL&LC=en&BC=ACER&SC=PA_6

Audio console driver: https://global-download.acer.com/GD...3=NITRO AN515-54&OS=ALL&LC=en&BC=ACER&SC=PA_6

Audio utility: https://global-download.acer.com/GD...3=NITRO AN515-54&OS=ALL&LC=en&BC=ACER&SC=PA_6

Bluetooth driver: https://global-download.acer.com/GD...3=NITRO AN515-54&OS=ALL&LC=en&BC=ACER&SC=PA_6

Serial I/O driver: https://global-download.acer.com/GD...3=NITRO AN515-54&OS=ALL&LC=en&BC=ACER&SC=PA_6

Killer networking LAN driver: https://global-download.acer.com/GD...3=NITRO AN515-54&OS=ALL&LC=en&BC=ACER&SC=PA_6

Realtek networking LAN driver: https://global-download.acer.com/GD...3=NITRO AN515-54&OS=ALL&LC=en&BC=ACER&SC=PA_6

(Note, only install both LAN drivers if you have multiple ethernet ports on your device. If you have only one single ethernet port, then install the driver type for the networking adapter that you actually have which you can likely identify by double clicking the Network adapter category in the device manager applet in control panel, to expand the category.

Only install the touchpad driver for the specific type of touchpad you have, which again, you should be able to identify in device manager.

Synaptics touchpad driver: https://global-download.acer.com/GD...3=NITRO AN515-54&OS=ALL&LC=en&BC=ACER&SC=PA_6

Elantech touchpad driver: https://global-download.acer.com/GD...3=NITRO AN515-54&OS=ALL&LC=en&BC=ACER&SC=PA_6

Intel turbo boost driver: https://global-download.acer.com/GD...3=NITRO AN515-54&OS=ALL&LC=en&BC=ACER&SC=PA_6

Same here. Install for the type of Wireless adapter you have, Intel or Killer.

Intel wireless adapter driver: https://global-download.acer.com/GD...3=NITRO AN515-54&OS=ALL&LC=en&BC=ACER&SC=PA_6

Killer wireless adapter: https://global-download.acer.com/GD...3=NITRO AN515-54&OS=ALL&LC=en&BC=ACER&SC=PA_6

Also, there are BIOS updates available for you unit, the most recent of which is from the 3rd of this month. It would be prudent to research HOW to update the BIOS, and then do so. BIOS updates can be found at the following page.

I would also like to note the the product that is brought up when entering the serial number you gave, is not the AN515-7386, but is instead the AN515-54, so there may be some discrepancy there. Verifying the model is accurate might help to resolve some of the multiple choices offered above but I would assume that based on the serial the resulting model is correct as are the drivers.

Thank you very much! I will get to it and install everything asap.

I have issue with locating touchpad in device manager, is that possible?

About the serial number, whole number at the back of laptop is AN515-54-7386, so you were right, I missed "54", my apologies.

What about that touchpad? Is it possible, that it's not in device manager? How should I find what type I have?

And although you propably know what you're talking about, I should install those thing above even if it says that I have newer drivers?

Go into device manager and take a screenshot. Then double click on the "mouse and pointing devices" to expand it, and take a screenshot.

Post screenshots here. Here's how to do that.

It's in my language, should that be a problem I'll try to make it in english. I don't know if you can find out what you need based on pictures or not :D

I don't see any issues there. I'd try installing all of the relevant drivers from those I listed. It would be prudent where there are two different choices, as I mentioned before, to try and identify WHICH of the two YOUR device is equipped with and only install the driver for THAT one, rather than trying to install both. If there is any doubt, you can probably just install both. If you don't HAVE a specific device it usually will either have no effect or it won't even allow you to install it because it doesn't detect the device.

Better to figure out which type you have though and install only that driver. If it says you have a newer driver installed, install it anyhow. You can always update to a newer device SPECIFIC driver later. The newer driver the system finds now may only be a generic or universal type driver which is usually not even as good as an older but device specific full featured driver. Using manufacturer supplied drivers whenever possible is almost always a better idea than trying to get by with the native Microsoft supplied drivers that are usually generic.
