Unwarranted low frame rates in Battlefield 4

Recently, I have been experiencing very low frame rates in battlefield, with around 30 on low. However, my machine is powered by a GTX 760, 4690k, 8GB Ram and I'm only playing on 1920x1200. Even more bizarre though is that once in a blue moon I will receive spectacular frame rates around 160 on low. Numerous re-installations of the game have not fixed this. What could be causing it?
