Hi,

I've got a PC here which came with WinXP at the time i bought it, and i've installed Win7 on it now.
I wanted to perform a BIOS update so i gathered the required info and i was able to download the update and a utility to flash it. The thing is, when i run it it says
"message: AwdFlash No Support WinNT/2000/XP OS"
So that'd suggest i could only flash it while my machine is on WinXP?

I've got this info:
BIOS version: Phoenix Tech, LTD 6.00 PG, 13-1-2006
Motherboard: MSI ms-7204
Intel i954P Chipset

I hope some ppl can help me, i suppose it must be possible to update the bios even when you upgrade your OS? Anyway, thanks for any help or suggestions.

As said, there's no reason to do this unless you know a particular problem is fixed by a BIOS update.

Also, it appears to be an old or relatively unsupported motherboard as I couldn't even find a support page. So just stay away from a BIOS update.

(Also, usually you can update a BIOS outside of the OS with a bootable flash program and the BIOS file on the same disc but you'd need to see the motherboard manual and of course obtain the new BIOS file etc. )

While in the bios, there should be an option to update the bios from file.

It'd be nice if this option was available but it isn't. And if i would have the option, i still don't have the update file 🙁

There is such a program and i tried it but unfortunately it only supports WinXP and below.
Not only would a bios update perhaps fix some issues, maybe performance will slightly increase.
Btw, is it common that a bios update gets you some more (advanced)options in your bios or shouldn't i suspect this?

I can find this advice all over the internet but thanks anyway 😉 the thing is that this pc is 9y/o and i'm experimenting with it so i'd be even surprised if it won't break at some point when i'm playing with it.
It doesn't matter if it ends in the garbage bin.
