Question Update Bios on z690 Motherboard

I am building a new system around 13700k. I received the CPU, motherboard and RAM but still waiting for the cooler (will be a few days). Can I already hook up my PSU with the motherboard to do the required BIOS flash for the Raptor Lake CPU? can I do that without the processor installed? just have the board on a table and connect to power?

Motherboard is MSI MPG Z690 EDGE WIFI DDR5 LGA 1700.

Follow the steps stated in your motherboard manual, page 50, under section Updating BIOS with Flash BIOS Button. You should be good to go.

So, for flashing the BIOS, I do not have to have a CPU installed, right?

Updating BIOS with Flash BIOS Button

1. Please download the latest BIOS file that matches your motherboard model from the MSI® website.
2. Rename the BIOS file to MSI.ROM, and save it to the root of the USB storage device.
3. Connect the power supply to CPU_PWR1 and ATX_PWR1. (No need to install CPU and memory.)
4. Plug the USB storage device that contains the MSI.ROM file into the Flash BIOS Port on the rear I/O panel.
5. Press the Flash BIOS Button to flash BIOS, and the LED starts flashing.
6. The LED will be turned off when the process is completed.
