Update bios

I downloaded an updated flash bios from Dell (4400_A06.EXE) to a floppy disk.
The instructions say "to download the file and copy it to a DOS-bootable
diskette. With the diskette in the floppy drive, reboot the system and run
the program."

How do I run the 4400_A06.EXE program? I tried run. I tried a reboot with
the diskette in the drive>

Go to your CMOS setup utility by pressing "delete" botton at startup.
then in the main page, search for "flash BIOS".

Making a MS-DOS startup disk will allow you to boot into MS-DOS.

To create an MS-DOS startup disk:

1. Insert a floppy disk into your computer's floppy drive.
2. Open My Computer, and then click the floppy disk drive to select it.
3. On the File menu, point to the name of the floppy drive, and then click Format.
4. Under Format options, click Create an MS-DOS startup disk.
5. Click Start.
6. Afterward, copy the Dell BIOS update file to the floppy.
7. Follow the Dell instructions on how to flash the BIOS.

Is the disk bootable? In other words, are there DOS system files on the
disk?
If not, you need to create a bootable floppy. Go here: http://bootdisk.com/
and look under "Driver Free Disk for BIOS Flashing." Copy the files, along
with the BIOS-flash executable you got from Dell, to a floppy and boot with
it in the drive. When you've booted to an A:\ prompt, enter the name of the
BIOS executable and hit enter.

Run the .exe file on your hardrive.. the program will expand the necessary
files that will enable you to create and use the BIOS flash diskette..

What happened when you rebooted with the diskette in the drive?
Did you boot and get an A: prompt. If not, either the diskette
isn't bootable (how did you make it?) or your BIOS isn't set to
boot from the diskette drive first.

Assuming the latter, you need to go into your BIOS setup program
and change the boot order.

Once you're at the A: prompt, just type 4400_A06

By the way, why do you want to flash the BIOS? Be aware, if
you're not, that it's an inherently dangerous procedure. If
something goes wrong while it's in progress (for example, a power
failure) you can be left with no workable BIOS at all and an
unbootable system. Do it only if there's something in that new
BIOS version you *need*, not just because there's a new version
available.

WTF's a 'har drive?' It's HARD DRIVE - *two* 'Ds' and *two* words! You're an
MVP (allegedly). You should know better.
