update disaster

This morning I installed the critical and other updates and after restarting
my computer as required I am stuck in 4 bit color and largest screen
resolution. Can someone help me resolve this please.

start/run, type DEVMGMT.MSC
Uninstall the video card device (highlight, then action menu), then restart.
That will reinstall the driver.
