Is there any software that updates to the latest version the firmware of the DVD drives LG GH24NS90 and Samsung SH-S223F / BRDH or is it necessary to download manually?

It seems Samsung has offloaded that firmware thing to some other company, and I'm not going down that rabbit hole.
But I wouldn't expect anything newer than 10 years old.

It appears that there are several "streams". -- SBnn, STnn, IDnn.

I suspect that it may be dangerous to crossflash different, potentially incompatible, versions. The manufacturer's tool probably screens out incompatible updates.

That tool appears to be able to determine the supported disc types by analysing a firmware image file. It also allows you to play with the supported write speeds.
