I am about to purchase a new monitor. I got to wondering if a GPU upgrade might also be required. Current GPU is Nvidia Geforce GTX 1070 ti. The PCs use is general, gaming (mostly Star Citizen and SWTOR) and photo editing. The monitor I have selected is a Dell S2722DGM as its intended for mixed use. I should also note that I utilize a second monitor, a BenQ BL2420-PT.

Thanks...oh, and if a new GPU is in my future, I would appreciate any suggestions.

Thanks for the reply; the system is around 4 years old, and includes:

CPU: AMD Ryzen 7 3700X 3.6 GHz 8-Core Processor
MB: Asus TUF GAMING X570-PLUS ATX AM4
Memory: G.Skill Ripjaws V 32 GB (2 x 16 GB) DDR4-3200 CL16
PSU: SeaSonic FOCUS Plus 650 Gold 650 W 80+ Gold Certified
GPU: EVGA FTW2 GAMING iCX GeForce GTX 1070 Ti 8 GB

The genesis of the question is I finally decided to upgrade an old monitor that I use for gaming (Star Citizen and SWTOR) as well as photo editing. After receiving suggestions on this forum, I have placed an order for a Dell S2722DGM. Hopefully, this is helpful in your guidance.

If your GTX 1070 Ti is already giving you satisfactory performance in the games that you play, then I wouldn't bother changing it until it is no longer sufficient. Online games are notoriously easy on hardware because the devs want the greatest number of possible players.

Photo editing is child's play so there's no need to worry about that.

Your psu will definitely need an upgrade if you're going to replace the gpu, gtx 1660 will probably suit you fine, your cpu is up to you.

Thanks for the replies; the other factor is if I need to consider a new one which class - AMD or Nvidia. I am thinking that since I have an AMD CPU perhaps the Radeon series is a good fit, no?

Also I noticed today that while editing on Lightroom, the GPU fan is running quite fast and the GPU itself is quite hot...hmmm. This is without an updated monitor.

Thoughts? thank you
