Hi,

I recently acquired an Intel L440GX+ dual processor motherboard. I have 2 PII-450 processors:

SL2U7 dB0 0652h 450/100 512 T6P-e/A0 ECC B1 SECC 3.00
SL358 dB0 0652h 450/100 512 T6P-e/A0 ECC B1 SECC2 OLGA

(although not the exact same match, the should be ok according to Intel criteria - i think).

I have 512Mb of PC133 SD-Ram (I know PC100 is specified but I assumed this works - it works in my Gateway machine). I have an ATX 300W power supply that although doesnt have the 24-pin power plug for the board is suitable as Intel allow for a 20-pin and aux-power. I have a SCSI 4Gig HD and regular floppy attached.

Anyways.. when I put the board together and power on, the only thing that happens is the mobo fans and HD crank up. I have all the jumpers in default position, but nothing happens.. no video, no error beeps - nothing. I have tried all the components individually and they all work fine.
I have tried toggling the Wake On LAN jumper as per the troubleshooing documentation:

ftp://download.intel.com/support/motherboards/server/l440gx/72207803.pdf

Has anyone got a clue as to what I am doing wrong??

Regards

Andy

Have you try with 1 CPU only?

OK, then I have a questions for you...
Why do you want to build this dual-processor system?
Your MB is new, used or refurbished? if it's used/refurbished it might be defective.

Why do I want to build it? I had a couple of PII's lying around, a compatible scsi disk and I managed to get hold of the board.

It is used and therefore I guess, could be defective...

Thing is, both PII's work fine and as far as I can see from the Intel literature, they should be compatible with each other...

PC133 works perfectly with most SDRAM board, even old TX chipset Pentium 1's, provided it's of a compatable density and BIOS isn't screwy. The reason I mention BIOS is because it is possible for companies to write BIOS that will detect your memory is "wrong" and refuse to use it. Having said that, I just tested out a similar board (could be identicle) using PC133 a few months ago, so I don't think memory is the problem.

Thanks for replying.. I am wondering whether its my power supply.. when I connect it and power up the Processor fans start up, but nothing else happens.. As I am a novice at messing aroung with MoBo's I'm at a loss to know whether this would indicate everything is ok with the power supply or not...

I am also taking the advice about and have ordered a Slot 1 terminator to see if the problem is using 2 Pii-450's.

I would think by the sounds of it the CPU jumpers are not set right (if it has them that is)

Trust me I know what I'm doing... ooops, grab the cat...

Well as far as I can see, there are no jumpers.. but here is something I have found.. though I'm unsure that its the reason...

The product overview only allows for PII with SECC packaging.. now one of my processors is a PII-450 with SECC and the other is PII-450 SECC2. They both have the same stepping and cache etc..

Does anyone think this could be the reason?

Hi. Well I got my hands on a slot 1 terminator card and the board wakes up - but only with the SECC pII-450. It wont seem to work with either the SECC2 pii-450 or a SECC2 piii-450 I have. As for when the board works, it does so as far as detecting the keyboard, then stops...

any ideas why??? ;-)
