My son is wanting to build a gaming PC from scratch. I currently have a hp P6653w which is 6 years old. I was wondering if there is any parts from it I could use in the build or if there are any possible upgrades I can make to it to improve performance. He would probably be able to spend max 700 on his build. He currently has xbox one and ps4 but he met a friend of mine who is big into PC games and now he wants to go that way. Help please I am clueless about where to start. Thanks for any suggestions

Here's a build for just under $700, what would your budget be for OS/monitor/mouse/keyboard?
Do you have a spare monitor lying around you could use?

CPU: Intel Core i5-6500 3.2GHz Quad-Core Processor ($194.99 @ SuperBiiz)
Motherboard: Gigabyte GA-B150M-DS3H Micro ATX LGA1151 Motherboard ($52.98 @ Newegg)
Memory: Corsair Vengeance LPX 16GB (2 x 8GB) DDR4-2400 Memory ($74.99 @ Newegg)
Storage: Western Digital Caviar Blue 1TB 3.5" 7200RPM Internal Hard Drive ($49.49 @ OutletPC)
Video Card: Gigabyte GeForce GTX 1060 3GB 3GB Windforce OC Video Card ($189.99 @ Newegg)
Case: NZXT S340...
other than the hard drive I can't imagine there is anything in the old HP you'd want to reuse. I'm assuming you have a working monitor and keyboard/mouse from the old one, which while not great are perfectly fine to start off with.

What kinds of budget range do you want to work with?

Thanks his budget would be max of $700 maybe something he could upgrade later also. He likes that game RUST but I am sure he is going to be into other games as well.

Solution
A tad over but I included a copy of Windows in my build. This should serve as a decent base, he can save up for a better GPU, expand the RAM or more storage as he needs it later on.
