Hello,
Do I need to install Windows XP Service Pack 1 if I am going to be
installing Service Pack 2? My recovery disks have XP 5?. I have downloaded
some critical updates through the automatic update feature. Windows Update
recommends as a critical update now SP2 even though I don't have SP1 .

Also as I use a HP Pavilion, the HP site says to download certain drivers
before installing SP2 but the drivers are for users with SP1.

Are SP1 and SP2 separate and complementary updates or does SP2 supersede SP1.
thank you for your help again.

Don't know about the HP pavilion issue but I'll answer your other question:
You do not need to download SP1 first as SP2 will bring you up to date.
