Question [UPDATE: PC TURNED ON] No beeps during minimal breadboarding ?

So I've searched in old threads about my problem but mine has additional info that might be useful.

So, first the reason I am breadboarding was a progressive issue. During any task while the PC was on I would get random black screens displaying "no signal " with sound looping. The fans and everything else kept spinning, the PC wouldn't shut down. Restarting would not solve the issue, requiring a shut down for some time and turning on again and it would boot just fine.

Then, a second problem, some days the PC would refuse to turn on if it was off for a long time. Power button not jump start would work, until I've waited for about 30 minutes of the PSU plugged it would start normally after pressing power.

Then, lastly, yesterday the PC would turn on but no boot. Instead showing "no signal" on monitor. From there I went for the breadboard for TS.

With only the Mobo, CPU and PSU, the speaker remains silent, no beeps, but the Mobo and processor fan starts.

If I add a single stick of 8gb ram, I get a single long beep and 2 short beeps after. Same results for every slot, and same results after using the second 8gb RAM stick that I have.

After my research the first suspect is the PSU, followed by the Mobo and lastly the CPU, can I narrow it down with the data i have?

Specs:
Mobo: gigabyte b450 gaming X ATX
CPU: AMD Ryzen 5 1600 AF
PSU: Corsair ATX PSU 80 plus VS650 650 W
GPU: XFX AMD Radeon RX580
RAM : 2x 8gb Corsair vengeance LPX 2400 MHz DDR4


I checked the CPU after all tests and no bent pins or anything off was spotted.

Determine if the problem follows the GPU or stays with the computer/motherboard.

How old is the PSU? Heavy gaming, video editing, or even bit-mining?

The MOBO manual says that the BIOS is AMI, in this link there is no "1 long, 2 short" for the beep codes. So what does it mean?

Pull the GPU and boot using integrated graphics if supported.

Try the GPU in another known working computer.

Try another known working GPU in your computer.

Determine if the problem follows the GPU or stays with the computer/motherboard.

How old is the PSU? Heavy gaming, video editing, or even bit-mining?

No heavy gaming, i always play with low settings. All games i played fit into the recommended software.
The heaviest of tasks i do is number crunching, simulation programs. The PSU is 1 year 6 months old

To give the largest amount of info possible , I've exhausted all the tests I could in the breadboard. Results:

CPU Mobo - no beep
CPU Mobo RAM(1) - 1 long, 2 short
CPU Mobo RAM(1) - no beep

TL; DR : testing without RAM produces no beeps, even with GPU installed.
testing with RAM, either stick, in all slots produces 1 long beep and 2 short beeps
The presence of GPU does not change the beeps.

extra: SOMETIMES, even with RAM installed, the system produces no beeps. This result was random in the tests.

These tests make me lean towards Mobo. But I don't know if I am interpretation it correctly.

Going back a step: Are the RAM sticks from a matched kit (2 x 8gb) for dual channel?

Verify that I found the correct User Manual for your motherboard.

First read the manual and make some notes on what you have done and/or expect to find.

Then use the manual to work though the installation process to double check physical installations and configurations.

Pay attention to footnotes and fine print. Likely you will be referred to Gigabyte's website for more up-to-date information,

If so, do so.

In the user manual Section 1-4 (physically numbered Page 9) addresses Installing the Memory. Double check the configuration.

Are you able to borrow some other known working RAM sticks? Or try your RAM sticks in another known working computer?

Determine if the problem follows the RAM or stays with the computer (motherboard).

So I finally managed to find another computer to test it. The result was faulty GPU, as you said in the first response. So the beep code is for lack of GPU probably. Thanks.

I will probably find a way to either RMA or fix it. GPU are both scarce and extremely expensive RN.

I managed to turn on my PC normally today. The GPU isn't the problem.

At first I sent my PC to a PC repair shop and they told me it was a faulty GPU, but they didn't provide GPU repair services there, so I sent to another PC repair shop.

In the second one, they tested everything again and the GPU worked on their PC and other two. On the other hand, they couldn't even turn the MOBO on, without heating it up first. But regardless of being on, no video display.

So what I did was: i heated the MOBO by simply turning it on by leaving the PSU plugged. I connected every device I could into the MOBO and turned it on, no video, but it didn't matter. I only wanted to heat up the MOBO.

Leaving the system on for 1h, I restarted and connected the GPU into my monitor. And it worked like a charm. So, I think it's pretty sure that the problem is the MOBO instead, right?

I'd think it's a bad solder joint in the pcie x16 slot from the sound of it. That slot is direct cpu lanes.

What you might do is use the secondary slot as that goes through chipset lanes instead. Different data route, different power route (partly), just check to make sure it's not sharing lanes with storage.

If it works without the mobo needing heated, then either there's an issue with the primary x16 slot, or possibly in the cpu/cpu socket itself on the receiving end of the data traces. Either way, points to a motherboard issue of some sort.

Sorry for the late reply, was out of my city until yesterday. I think your tip is spot on, i changed the slots and the MOBO turned on without heating.

The problem that persist, though, is the random black screens with sound in the background, followed by a crash a few minutes later, the black screen would persist even after turning off, without POST. I started removing each pc part and putting it back on until PC turned on normally again. So far, after i removed one of my ram sticks, the computer posted normally and booted normally. And the PC was in use for a full week, with no black screens or crashes. Perhaps a secondary problem in the RAM slots? (The ram sticks were tested in other PC's without problems)

There seems to be a problem either at the CPU socket traces or potentially in one of the power planes of the PCB. This could cause issues with both the PCIe slot and RAM slots. Do you have a multimeter and know how to use it? You can test some of the motherboard power plane if you wanted.

Could also be the psu, 20+4 pin connection, or as said, the power plane for such. Both ram and PCIe slots use 3.3v, so if there is a power issue on that rail, it can affect either or both. Most New gpus have leaned away from 3.3v use, but an Rx580 will still use it to a degree.

Either way, it's seriously looking like a non-repairable motherboard issue unless tied to the psu or a connector.

A few updates:

It seems that i have multiple issues. After "solving" the black screen crashes after removing one stick of ram, this week black screens have returned, but without crashes, sound in background, windows still responsive. Turns out my PC started having troubles with the newest AMD radeon driver, i made a DDU and reinstalled it, without the new driver, display was fine, but at the very moment i installed the latest driver, black screen. After that i DDU again and installed older version(20.9.1 WHQL) and it's working fine and actually much smoother than the new driver, screen transition in games, FPS and overall video-editing performance improved. Idk if it's just a driver problem or a problem in the GPU itself.

So, the results are in

MOBO: Completely bonkers, was the cause of the PC refusing to startup and crashes.
GPU: Black screens were actively caused as soon as the newest driver was installed, rolling it back solved the issue. There might be issues with the GPU hardware itself, but i will keep using it to spot something odd.

I will test the PSU and update if i find there is a problem with it aswell, i doubt it because multiple testing in multiple computers found no issues, but anyway. Thanks for the support.
