Update to 98SE

I was thinking of putting Win 98SE onto an IBM Aptiva with a 400megz AMD. It has Win 98. The thing is, the version of 98SE I have is one that came with a computer. You know, the one that says only use with this computer. Is it ok to use it? Also, any advice on upgrading?

The legal minded slipstream: no you cannot do this, it is evil evil evil! that copy is only for the computer it came with. you cannot use it on another computer.

The realistic slipstream: sure go for it. don't forget to burn yourself a copy (or two) to give to your friends.

Win 98 and win98se are very close, pretty much if 98 runs 98se will run. there may be a few times when that isn't true but on your system it will run. fromat the whole machine first, makes for a cleaner install.

For a 400MHz processor you can run ANY operating system out there, including the Windows 2000. It's just that how much RAM you have in your computer that is the decision point there.
