UPDATE: Please see the large "CaptMicrowave" comment below with new details about my problem.

[strike]This is my first post here, so I will try my best to format properly based on posts I've read.

This week I have attempted to build two PCs neither of which receive power to anything. They use two entirely separate lists of components, which I checked the compatibility of ahead of time. So, naturally I believe the problem is my fault because it's doubtful both have DOA parts.

I tested the PSUs and confirmed they have power (fans will spin if plugged directly into the PSU; I did a simple paperclip test) but nothing will get power when the PSU is plugged into the motherboard. Nothing happens when I use the power switch or bridge the POWERSW pins myself.

I followed many of the steps in the "NO POWER NO POST ETC" checklist, but I haven't had any luck yet.

I set everything up on a wooden table and wear an anti-static bracelet.

All of the connections are made very firmly. I remembered the 8 Pin CPU spot and the 24 pin motherboard slot.

The only explanation outside of me forgetting something obvious is that both brand new motherboards were DOA and that seems very unlikely.

What am I missing here?[/strike]

Parts list below in "CaptMicrowave" comment/thread. I have gone through the usual "No Power No Post" thread.

I checked both CPUs for bent pins, but they seem fine. I was very cautious placing them in as well.

The boards don't have any LEDs that I know of. The front panel LED does not come on. I don't have an on board speaker, but I may buy one tonight.

Nothing spins up for even a second, however, so I don't know that the speaker will be able to help me.

I will air dust the 24 pin connectors and then continue to go through that check list and breadboard.

Hopefully something comes up. If not, I'll return one of the motherboards and try again.

Unplug the PC from the wall. Pull everything except the CPU and one stick of RAM. Plug the PC back in and see if the power supply will energize the board. If it does you have a overcurrent in some component other than the motherboard. Each time the PSU goes into an overcurrent condition you have to remove the power cord to allow the caps in the PSU to drain because most modern PSUs lock out and won't restart even if the overcurrent problem is fixed.
If it starts with everything removed (you won't get video output but the fans will spin) then power off and plug one additional thing in, probably start with RAM sticks and retry. Don't overlook that you might have a bad fan, including the CPU cooling system. If you disconnect CPU cooling, only power it on for just enough time to see if the PSU powers up then immediately power off. During this stage you are only testing for what is overcurrenting the PSU, not to see if the system runs.

MERGED QUESTION
Question from captmicrowave : "Two different PCs not posting."

I have tried without RAM and did not get any beeps. I don't think I have gotten beeps with any combination of parts.

Both the 24 pin and 8 pin connectors are connected.

What are the odds that the CPU or the Boards are dead after I've replaced them? What could cause them to be dead in two different PCs?
