UPDATE WOES!!! Cant figure it out

Hi. Been trying to figure this problem out for days now. I haven't been able to download updates in months. It just continuously scans for updates and doesn't end?

Tried everything... tons of hotfixes, starting and stopping services, cmd, sfc scannow, chkdsk etc, everything I could think of.

Funny thing this has happened on both my Win7 Ultimate installs and my sisters fresh windows 7 install?

Could anyone please give me some advice? Is there a way to repair the OS using the cd without losing my progs?

First thing that actually comes to mind is a firewall issue. Do you utilize any 3rd party firewalls in your system or do you use the standard Windows firewall?

In any case, ensure you have windows update allowed through the firewall. Also ensure you have the following path added to exceptions if it isn't already:

c:\windows\System32\svchost.exe (this process is actually a port to many different net processes of Windows, so it is essential to have it allowed through the network)

no third party firewalls but ill look at it tomorrow to make sure aswell as that hotfix. ill get back to u soon with the results. Thanks.
