Black screen NO cursor. Keyboard seems unresponsive. Been researching for a month >. Scared due to complexity of BIOS update. Any suggestions greatly appreciated.

Did you lose power at all during the update? Did you check again to make sure it was the right file? Do you know what issues the update was supposed to fix?
In theory you could probably take out the hard drive and grab the data out that you need then the computer repaired. Not ideal, but would at least save your research.

Yes, was recommended to update BIOS. Yes, got correct file . . . however . . . . K50IJ, ASUS, built for WinVista preinstalled with Win7 (was kisosk model got discount) 64bit. Upgraded to Win8. Worked great for everything and you are correct, I have volumes of photos as well as research. Also I have already performed a month of research before reaching out here first. Tried to upload to Skydrive before this issue and got hurried. Go figure. The lesson extends not only to this issue but other life issues as well.
