The last test? What about the last series? You cannot look at a test
match without looking at the series.
Though, I will admit two things here.
1 - That ODI, England convincingly outplayed Australia and deserved to win.
2 - This year feels like 1989 (was it'89 when Australia won the Ashes?)
but for the other way around. England has improved immensely, Australia
isn't quite as good as what we once were (funny considering we
obliterated both teams that came out here and finally got a series
victory over India in India) and we have an overall cockiness that could
make the Ashes series a very dangerous one for us. I'm not saying
England will win, but it'll be far more interesting than the previous
Ashes battles since we won them back. Probably the most exciting test
series since the great West Indies Vs Australia battles in the 1980s and
1990s since AUS Vs SA was a bit of a fizzer and ENG Vs SA while good
wasn't (at least at this stage) fought out between the top two teams in
the world.

As far as 'Little Johnny' Howard goes- he's just a sports nut. I
guarantee you if Australia is performing in anything, even the
Synchronised Swimming World Championships (if there is such a thing) if
we were to perform he'd be there. People often make the joke about him
spending more time at sporting events than actually running the country.
I would have said it had Australia won the thing, I said it after the
last World Cup (that we did win)- I'm a Victorian. Ask an Australian
sports buff and they'll tell you that to a Victorian (and to most of
Australia except two states, New South Wales (from about 150km north of
the Victorian border) and Queensland) that rugby (both codes- yes, I
know we have the Melbourne Storm, how many Melbourne born and bred
players are on that team? Perhaps 1 if we're lucky) means absolutely
zilch to them.
