Question Updated firmware now unable to login to reconfigure modem/router

I have an old Nettcomm NB5Plus4+ adsl modem/router which i was going to use as DHCP /router. I updated the firmware using this file NB5Plus4_1_Cx_20-39_9153.img
I can now not connect to 192.168.1.1.
Settiing the PC to DHCP does not work, as no IP address is being assigned.
I do not know what address the router has or see the DHCP server.
Connecting my ethernet cables as
PC Lan port 1
New(er) NBN modem Lan port 2
allows the PC to see the NBN DHCP server and can connect to the internet.
i.e. NB5 is acting as a switch.
The update appeared to work. status bar progressed to the end.
I have done a factory reset.
Any ideas on how to find and login to the config page?

The factory address may not be 192.168.1.1. Have u consulted manual? not only that, there maybe a initial setup (from factory) procedure specific to this box.

The manual states the factory default address is 192.168.1.1.

The Lan port on the modem lights up when connected to my PC.
The DHCP server is not assigning an address to my PC.
I tried connecting with fixed IP 192.168.1.50 using both Chrome and IE.
How can I identify what address or have I bricked my modem?
