I built a computer for a friend of mine back in november and last night he called me up saying he installed a windows 10 update and when it got to 25% it froze for a few hours. He shut the computer down and now when we turn it on nothing happens? Did windows fry his computer? When i push the power button everything turns on like normal inside the tower. Lights, fans, spindle drive spools up, and water pump, but the monitor remains inactive. I have checked with different cables and different monitors/tv's throughout the house and still no signal to the monitor. Also when i plug in a mouse or a keyboard it gets power for a split second then nothing. I pulled his graphics card and put it in my computer and it works fine so i know that is not the problem. I cleared the cmos by removing the battery and still nothing. This thing ran awesome for 2 months and now its acting funny. I've built a few computers and have a basic knowledge of building them, but relied on my IT friends at work for advice on these builds and now i am stumped at what is going on here. Any ideas what could have happened?? Is the Motherboard gone bad, or does that even happen?

Here is a list of whats in the machine:
CPU: AMD FX-6350
CPU Cooler: Corsair H80i
Motherboard: Gigabyte GA-970A-UD3P
RAM: GSkill Ripjaws X series 1 x 8gb 1866mhz DDR3
Storage: Samsung EVO 850 250gb
Graphics: MSI Geforce GTX950 2gb
PSU: Corsair CSM 550 80+ Gold
Optical Drive: Asus Trusty Drive
Case: Corsair 200R

All the parts were bought new in November from either Newegg or Amazon btw.

Solution
A windows update won't stop it from going into the BIOS or posting. Since its not even in windows

If you pulled the CMOS battery out, reconfigure the BIOS settings

It sounds like his HDD may have an issue if the PC is not booting all the way, but it could be a number of things. Work with his hardware by removing them piece by piece to see what may be malfunctioning (RAM included). A PC not booting all the way before BIOS loading definitely represents a hardware problem.

I doubt it is the SSD, because it wont even post to bios. I did unplug the SSD and still nothing. I plugged in a speaker to the speaker pins on the mother board and turned it on and no beep. Is that more evidence that my MoBo is at fault? I did swap ram slots and tried it multiple times but still no luck. When i get home from work i may try to pull the power supply out of my computer and plug it into his to rule out the PSU.

I dont have access to another AM3+ chip. i am running an intel 1151 in my build so i couldnt swap either out. I am going to call gigabyte tech and see if they have any advice, or if i just need to get a new mobo. Thanks for the help i will post my results when i find out.
