updates not installing on reboot

Hi,

One of my laptops has a win10 update issue. They repeated say "requires a restart to finish installing". The problem is that restarting (or turning off and rebooting) seems to do nothing ... they don't install. The laptop starts up and everything works fine but ... it would be nice to keep up with the updates if possible.

The updates are: KB4054517 (cumulative update for win10 vers 1709)
KB4058043 (update for win10 vers 1709)
KB4074595 (security update for Adobe flash player)
KB4056887 (yet another security update for Adobe flash player)

I'm particularly puzzled because I have several other almost identical laptops and they have all updated just fine. Anyway, any thoughts, suggestions would be appreciated.

check in settings/update & security/activation. Is PC activated? Does it say "Windows is activated with a digital licence"

If it says that, all you need to do when you repair install, when it asks for the licence key, click "I don't have a key" and win 10 will continue to install and then check an activation server to confirm PC actively has a Win 10 license.

You don't need to know license anymore, MS tracks it.

If the activation screen says "Windows is activated with a digital license linked to your Microsoft account" it means that either you or the previous owner has been using an account linked to an email address which means you need to use the email address to activate win 10. You can see those steps here -...
right click start button
choose powershell (admin)
type SFC /scannow and press enter
once its completed, copy/paste this command into same window:
Repair-WindowsImage -Online -RestoreHealth and press enter
SFC fixes system files, second command cleans image files, re run SFC if it failed to fix all files, and restart PC

if 2nd command comes back with errors, we can fix them... I just won't link the fix unless its needed.

At least its on the latest version, if the SFC scan doesn't help, you can always do a repair install: https://www.tenforums.com/tutorials/16397-repair-install-windows-10-place-upgrade.html

Thx for the reply ... neither the SFC scan or the Repair command found any errors. I may try a repair install later today but I'm a bit reluctant to go that route - I bought that particular laptop 2nd hand and as such, I'm not sure of the win10 activation code (or product key ... whatever it is called). I guess that JellyBean keyfinder utility would tell me that though? - I've never used it.

Earlier, I mentioned that I have several nearly identical laptops that are updating just fine. One difference I noticed last night is that they are all win10 pro whereas this problematic one is win10 home.

you can use that same link to tie current PC to email address if it isn't already.
