Updates won't install.

Archived from groups: microsoft.public.windowsxp.newusers (More info?)

I just upgraded from ME to XP Pro. When I Download the
upgrades and service packs they say they are downloaded
and sucessfully installed. I reboot as required, and
they are not there, and the upgrade scanner says we need
to download just as many as before. Service Pack 1a
won't even load. Some of my other programs seem to open,
then just die, in particular my virus scanners. Any
suggestions? I though XP pro was supose to be so great.
