Is it possible update windows without booting up to the HDD? I have it connected to a different computer as an external drive.

My other computer took a dump on me after and update. I am trying to see if updating it from my main computer will fix it.

Solution
To UPDATE Windows, no. Windows itself can't recognize that it needs updated without being physically booted. Lets keep in mind that OSes are still software, and software does not update while the computer is offline or in BIOS/POST sequences.

A clean reinstall of Windows would probably be preferred for a hard drive that failed on you due to Windows reasons anyway.
